Studio Policies

Dress Code:
Dress code is established so that instructors can have full visibility of the body so that they can insure proper form and safety of our students. Dress code varies between classes. Hair is to be pulled back in a ponytail or bun. A bun is required for ballet classes. If the student has short hair, their hair must be pulled away from their face.

Pre Dance (Ballet): Students are required to wear a leotard (any color), tights, and pink ballet shoes (skirts are optional). Hair should be pulled out of their face.

Ballet:
Students are required to wear a leotard (any color), tights, and pink ballet shoes (skirts are optional).

Jazz:

Jazz/Hip-Hop:
Students are required to wear a leotard, tights, and tan jazz shoes (fitted shorts, leggings, and jazz pants are optional but must be worn over tights).

Tap: Students are required to wear fitted clothing and tap shoes, specified by their instructor. Jazz pants and leggings are allowed. If students wear shorts, tights must be worn underneath. All tops must be solid colored or dancers may wear the studio's logo attire.

Contemporary: Students may wear a leotard with tights (fitted shorts are optional) or leggings with a close fitting shirt. Students should wear half sole lyrical shoes.

Hip-Hop: Students are required to wear black hip-hop shoes and clothing that does not interfere with mobility. Jazz pants and leggings are allowed. If shorts are worn. tights must be worn underneath. Shirts must be worn over sports bras.  All tops must be solid colored or dancers may wear the studio's logo attire.
*Sports bras may not be worn as a top in any class. If a fitted crop top is worn, it must cover the stomach.

Boys: Boys are required to wear black athletic pants and a solid t shirt. Their required shoes are to be black for all styles.

Payments:
All tuition fees must be paid for via credit or debit card. Southern Grace Dance Co. will not accept any other form of payment. Upon registering for classes, you will input your payment information and it will be stored securely. On the 1st of every month your card will be charged.

If payment is declined, we offer a 15 day grace period before a late fee of $15.00 is charged. Students will not be able to participate in class if the fees remain unpaid after the 15th. If the fee is unpaid by the 30th of the month past due, the unpaid student's class slot will be forfeited and made available for a student on the waitlist. Should the student wish to continue dance, they must be re enrolled in a class with availability and a registration fee will be due.

Prorating: Class fees will not be prorated due to absences, Holidays, or weather closures. Our tuition fees are determined by adding the sum total of classes for the full class session (August-May) and dividing that amount into even monthly installments.

Class Withdraw: If you would like to withdraw from a class, you must fill out a formal withdraw form.
This form must be completed and submitted in person at our office during business hours before the 1st of the month, to avoid being required to pay further tuition payments. If the form is not received before the 1st of the month, you will be responsible for tuition of the dropped classes, regardless of attendance for the coming months until the form is submitted. Only at this time will automatic payments be terminated. If a student chooses to withdraw during a month, the fee for the entire month will still be owed. All dancers will be automatically withdrawn from their class at the conclusion of a class session.

Recital Fees: All recital fees (Costume fees and Show fees) are non refundable. If a dancer will not be participating in a recital/showcase, notification must be given before the fees are due. An opt out form must be completed and submitted no more than one day before any fees are due.
*Stage moms are required for each class. They are volunteers from each class who will sit in the audience with the dancers. If a class does not have stage moms or the number or required stage moms, a $15.00 fee will be charged (per student) to cover the cost of a sitter.

Attendance:
If a student misses class, it affects them and their fellow classmates. That is why it is expected for them to be in class every week. If a student is unable to attend class, they must text the studio number to notify the instructor. There will be no refunds for missed classes. After their absence, a student may talk with their instructor about a make-up class, to see if there is a class they may be able to attend.

Classroom Rules/Behavior:
Our students are expected and encouraged to treat their instructor(s) and classmates with grace and respect at all times. They are to be kind to others, ready to listen and obey their teacher, and eager to learn.
Our classes are designed to be independent with only dancers, instructors, and teachers's assistants in the room. This keeps our classrooms distraction free.  We offer a one way viewing window into each classroom so that parents are able to still watch the class and feel included in the experience.

We know and understand that for many of our 2-3 year olds, dance is the first experience away from their mom/caregiver. This is why we allow parents to come into the room for the first 4-6 weeks (if necessary). This gives the dancer the time to bond with the instructors and classmates, building confidence and security. We encourage the phase out of moms to begin taking place at the end of class when we are giving stamps and treats. This allows the dancers to see that when class is over and they exit the classroom, that mom is just outside the door watching and that she never left. This helps make the transition smooth. If after 4-6 weeks, a child is still upset and our staff is unable to soothe them, without mom, then it is concluded that the child is not yet ready for dance class. At this point, we would recommend trying again in 6 months-a year.

While we love keeping dance class fun, our ultimate goal is for our dancers to learn and grow. In order for this to happen, respect and obedience is necessary. We expect our dancers of all ages to be able to obey and follow rules (unless they are a special needs student). If a student's behavior has gotten out of hand and/or is hindering their classmates from learning, our instructors hold the right to excuse the student from the class for a period of time, that day, or to send them home. There will be no refund given for the class from which the student was excused.

Coming and Going:
Students should arrive at the studio a few minutes early so that they are dressed, with shoes on, when class starts. Children should not be left unattended in the lobby. For the safety of our students, guardians must come inside to pick their child at the end of class. If students, who drive, have classes that end after dark, they must walk out with a member of our staff.

Cell phones:
During class, cell phones must be on silent mode and tucked away in the student's dance bag. If there is an emergency, you may call the studio.

Lobby:
Our lobby is a place where families are able and encouraged to come watch their dancers and should be free of things that may distract our students. Siblings are welcome and must be accompanied by a guardian at all times.

Photo/Video:
Without said permission, viewers and parents do not legally have the right to photograph or video a student other than their own. Please keep all photos and videos limited to those of your child, unless you have obtained permission from the parent/legal guardian, or person themself if they are over the age of 18. We ask that you do the same with any photos or videos posted to social media platforms

Recital
We hold two recitals in one dance season. It is assumed all dancer will be participating in both our Christmas Showcase as well as our Spring Recital. Please see our events tab for those dates. If your dancer will not be participating, an opt out form must be completed and submitted in person at our office no more than one day before any fees are due.

We Would Love to Have You Visit Soon!
